Dental Assistant
The dental chair side assistant works directly with the dentist and the patient. She/he is skilled in the preparation and use of basic instrument setups as well as in the proper manipulation of dental instruments and materials. She/he can expose, process and mount dental x-ray film, clean and sterilize instruments and instruct the patient in proper oral health care. Her/his expertise in the operation and maintenance of dental equipment is essential in the modern dental office. The primary goal of the dental assistant is to provide the patient with competent dental care. To accomplish this, she/he must be proficient in four-handed dentistry, knowledgeable in preventive dentistry and confident as a member of the dental health care team.
This program will develop the skills necessary to secure an entry-level position as a chair side assistant or receptionist in a dental office. A graduate would also be qualified to work in a dental clinic, dental lab and/or dental supply house.
