Medical Assisting
This program is designed to prepare graduates to work as medical assistants primarily in ambulatory settings such as medical offices and clinics. Medical assistants are multi-skilled professionals who assist in patient care management. They serve as an important link between the patient and the health care delivery system and provide essential support in the areas of patient care, medical and lab procedures management and office administration. Student can gain practical, administrative, interpersonal and clinical skills, which will give them the technical ability and versatility needed to establish careers in the field of allied health services. General education courses can provide students a well-rounded education.
Upon graduation from the Associate of Occupational Science in Medical Assisting, students will be awarded a degree and should be able to demonstrate the workplace skills of problem solving and rational thinking, professionalism in interpersonal situations and business functions, the ability to perform patient-related clinical duties and laboratory procedures as appropriate to the clinical setting, the ability to perform the administrative duties of medical office management including reception, medical coding and bookkeeping, secretarial, medical records and computer applications.
