Medical Office Specialist

In just eight months, students of the Medical Office Specialist program receive training in basic human anatomy, medical terminology, billing and collections, medical ethics, appointment scheduling, medical records, and public relations. General duties that graduates may perform include preparation of medical charts and reports, data entry and correspondence from dictation. Bookkeeping duties may include payroll, withholdings, tax reports, and accounts payable and receivable. Insurance duties may include determining benefits and coverage, processing claims, and obtaining settlements. Front office administration duties may include performing business correspondence, completing reports, and scheduling appointments.

Graduates may diversify or specialize in one of several areas and work in outpatient clinics, medical, dental, or optometry offices as well as hospitals and insurance offices. Graduates of the Medical Office Specialist program receive a diploma, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certificate, and a typing certificate.
